Before buying your furniture it’s important to be sure that the piece will fit through all access points - this includes measuring doorways, halls and stairwells. To help you, we list dimensions with our products online and we've also listed below some important points to keep in mind;
Take time to measure the height and width of your door frames to know whether or not your furniture will fit through, it's extremely easy to underestimate the width of your door frames and because of this we'd always suggest an accurate measurement and check to make sure.
- Measure the height (h) and width (w) of any doors you will need to pass through.
- Check to make sure that the doorways are clear of any obstructions.
- Remember to take into consideration any fixtures on your walls or immovable objects, like radiators.
In some cases, such as with sofas, there is more than one way to manoeuvre it through your doors. For example, you can stand the sofa up on one end or tilt it and use the diagonal width of the sofa to twist it through the doorway. The same can be done with other pieces such as tables and bookcases too.
Plan ahead for which access point you want your furniture to be delivered at and be sure to check that any pieces will fit easily through any tight spaces - such as hallways and vestibules.
Does your stairwell have any twists or turns? Make sure to measure the height (h), width (w) and depth (d) of the stairwell to ensure that you can turn if needed.
Some floors could have different heights in the stairwell, so it's always best to double check and measure all floors.
If the only way to access your home is with a lift, the height (h) and width (w) of the lift door and inside all need to be taken into account. It's also crucial to check the weight of your sofa against the maximum load of the lift to avoid any unforeseen complications.
