How to Work Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2022 in Your Home

15 Dec 2021

Every year, trend lovers watch out for the Pantone Colour of the Year; a shade defined by the global colour authority as reflective of the 12 months ahead. They brought us Rose Quartz (aka ‘millennial pink’) in 2017, set the world aglow in Illuminating yellow for 2021, and now they’ve revealed the hottest hue for 2022.

Enter Very Peri: “literally the happiest and the warmest of all the blue hues,” said Pantone Colour Institute's Executive Director, Leatrice Eiseman, on a video call to CNN. "The colour symbolises the future. (It) has that sprightly, joyous attitude that we're talking about, that carefree confidence, and creative spirit."

And Eiseman isn’t wrong. This tranquil blue features a subtle red undertone, which gives it a warmth and energy that makes you feel comforted even from a glance. Its calming influence makes it a must for decorating your home, so expect Peri Blue feature walls to blow up in 2022.

But, until Peri Blue explodes onto Instagram, we’re looking to all the blues in our store, and planning an interiors upgrade for 2022. Care to join us? Keep scrolling for the truest blue essentials to have in your home – perfect for adding a pop of comforting colour to every room…

1. Blue Cushions and Throws

Double down on the halcyon vibes by teaming tranquil blue with cosy textures. If you want a quick, easy way to channel the trend, throws and cushions have you covered. Cuddle up in the Oregon Navy Throw, which is luxe beyond words, then scatter two or three Navy Embroidered Honey Bee Cushions on the sofa for a soft place to crash.

2. Blue Rugs and Runners

Give your wooden floors a 2022 update with blue-toned rugs and runners. Placed on a herringbone pattern or cool-toned oak, oceanic hues lend a chic twist to a neutral room. Try the Astral Rug in Blue for a tonal take on this new-season colour, or explore our full flooring department for runners that will elevate your stairway.

3. Blue Chairs and Sofas

If you’re ready to go all in on the blue trend, why not opt for a statement piece? Blue designer sofas, armchairs and dining chairs brighten up your room, while remaining ultra-Instagrammable. For those shopping for a new sofa, the Sits Cleo Navy Blue Corner Sofa is a plush pick, guaranteed to look stylish long after a new Pantone Colour of the Year comes by. Meanwhile, the Blue Velvet Ottawa Chair makes dining a photo-ready dream. Place a few around the Petra Dining Table for a distinctly modern aesthetic.

4. Blue Home Accessories

Sometimes, it’s the unexpected flashes of blue that make the most impact. Swathes of cerulean in the Tidal Flow Wall Art and a Scandi-inspired burst of bold from the Matt Indigo Domed Metal Pendant. If you embrace a Very Peri feature wall, pieces like these will tie your decor together, and if you decide to keep your walls and floors neutral, they’ll add a welcome injection of colour. Win-win.
