Mirrors work in almost every room of the home - it's simply a matter of choosing the right style and size.

• Hallways - A wall mirror in the entrance of your home creates a brighter, more welcoming space, and is the perfect placement for a last look before you head out for the day.
• Living rooms - Hanging above a fireplace or leaning against a feature wall, large mirrors reflect light and add a real sense of depth and drama.
• Bedrooms and dressing rooms - A full-length freestanding or floor mirror is a practical everyday essential, while a wall mirror above a dressing table adds both function and elegance.
• Bathrooms - Many of our choices can be used as bathroom mirrors, but always be sure to check individual product descriptions for suitability before buying!
• Dining rooms - A statement mirror on the main wall adds grandeur and can make your space feel considerably larger.

The right size depends on the type of mirror and where you plan on placing it.

For wall mirrors hung above furniture, a good rule of thumb is to choose a mirror that's roughly two-thirds the width of the surface below it - wide enough to make an impact without overpowering the rest of your decor.

For a fireplace or statement wall, a larger and taller mirror tends to work best. For freestanding and full-length mirrors, look for a height of at least 150mm for a proper head-to-toe reflection.

In smaller spaces, even a modestly sized mirror can make a significant difference to how light and spacious the room feels.

How you secure a mirror depends on the type.

For wall mirrors, always identify your wall type first - solid brick, plasterboard, and stud walls require different fixings and weight ratings. Use fixings appropriate for both your wall type and the weight of the mirror, making sure to follow the instructions provided and use a spirit level to ensure it hangs straight. For heavier pieces, two people or a professional fitter are recommended.

For freestanding mirrors, most styles can be anchored to the wall using an anti-tip strap, and many frames include a rear fixing point for this purpose. We recommend securing any large freestanding mirror this way, particularly in homes with young children or pets.
