Decorative Wall Mirrors

As a general rule, a mirror hung above a piece of furniture should be roughly two-thirds the width of the surface below it. So, a mirror above a console table or sideboard, for example, should sit comfortably within the width of that piece, rather than extending beyond it.

For height, consider the wall space available, as well as the scale of the room. A large room with high ceilings can carry a much bigger mirror than a compact hallway.

If you're using a mirror purely as a focal point above a fireplace, for example, large wall mirrors tend to work best.

Wall mirrors work beautifully in almost every room, but they look best in:

• Living rooms - Hang above a fireplace, sofa, or console table to create a focal point and reflect light around your living room.
• Hallways - A wall mirror is a practical and stylish addition to any entrance, making the space feel brighter and more welcoming.
• Bedrooms - Mount above a bedside table, headboard, or as part of a gallery wall among artwork for a boutique hotel feel.
• Bathrooms - Many of our mirrors are suitable for bathroom use, but make sure to check specific product descriptions for specific guidance before buying.
• Dining rooms - A large decorative mirror adds drama and creates the illusion of a more open, spacious room.

Before hanging any mirror on the wall, you need to identify your wall type – solid brick, plasterboard, and stud walls all require different fixings and weight ratings. Always use fixings appropriate for both your wall type and the weight of the mirror, and follow the hanging instructions provided.

Use a spirit level to ensure the mirror hangs straight, and for larger or heavier pieces, we recommend having two people – one to hold, one to fix.
